Book on marula and baobab published!

The BAORULA network has published a book Baobab & Marula – New Solutions to Global Warming and Food Security in collaboration with Into Publishing. The book explores how these two iconic African trees can help combat climate change and improve food security across the globe. The book is both a scientific resource and a call to action—showing how indigenous trees can be central to global sustainability efforts.

The contents of the book are categorised into the four larger themes. Climate and Ecological Impact explores how baobab and marula trees thrive in arid, degraded landscapes. It highlights their role in carbon sequestration, soil restoration, and biodiversity support, and discusses these trees’ suitability in climate mitigation and adaptation. Nutritional and Economic Value details the nutritional richness of baobab and marula fruits, examines their potential to combat malnutrition and support food sovereignty, and analyses value chains for products that can sustain rural economies.

Scientific and Policy Research discusses biochemical analysis, agroforestry models, and policy frameworks. It also advocates for integrating these trees into sustainable land-use strategies and climate-smart agriculture. Community Engagement and Practice shares case studies of community-led planting projects, nursery development, and local garden initiatives, emphasising the importance of knowledge exchange between researchers, farmers, and policymakers.

The book is available for purchase both as an ebook as well as a physical copy at Into Publishing website.
