Modeling the Future with the Biodiversity Digital Twin School
Our team member Dr. Gideon Gywa has participated in the Biodiversity Digital Twin School and Hackathon, which took place between March 3-7, 2025, at the heel of the Italian Peninsula – in the city of Lecce, Italy.
This school is designed to give researchers and professionals hands-on skills to unlock and improve their digital modelling skills, to promote the innovation of novel practices in biodiversity, such as the creation of Digital Twins for biodiversity.
As part of the School and Hackathon program attended by only 20 selected individuals across Europe, participants were walked through the process of developing a virtual model of real-world entities and ecosystems through detailed simulation and analysis using cutting-edge technologies like High-Performance Computing (HPC), FAIR data principles, and open APIs to model biodiversity in unprecedented ways, to help accurately predict biodiversity trends, inform conservation strategies, and support sustainable development.
We’re proud of Dr. Gywa’s contributions and look forward to integrating these forward-thinking approaches into our work!
