Welcoming Gideon Gywa to the BISONS Lab

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Gideon Deme Gywa to the BISONS lab as a Turku Collegium Postdcotoral Researcher!

Dr. Gywa’s research spans multiple disciplines, with a keen focus on the ecology and evolution of species traits. Through a combination of field and laboratory studies, he explores how environmental disturbances, especially those caused by human activities, affect species’ adaptation and survival across different ecosystems. His work ranges from butterflies to lizards, mosquitoes to microplastics, highlighting his versatile and dynamic approach to ecological research.

At the University of Turku, Dr. Gywa will work to explore how digital platforms can contribute to fill biodiversity knowledge gaps in the Global South. His research aims to explore the potential of social media as a source of data, what drives people to contribute with biodiversity data on these platforms and how such data can be leveraged for biodiversity conservation.

Dr. Gywa’s expertise in computational methods and dedication to understanding ecological patterns and proposing solutions in a rapidly changing world makes him a valuable addition to our team. We are confident that his expertise will not only enhance our ongoing projects but also open new avenues for research within the BISONS lab.

Please join us in giving Dr. Gywa a warm welcome as he embarks on this exciting new chapter with us!
