Travel Information

How to get here:

The city of Turku can be reached either by train from Helsinki (Rautatientori or Pasila) or by bus from Helsinki airport, which is located in Vantaa. Finnair currently offers direct buses from Helsinki airport to Turku bus station, which can be booked together with your flights. If you are flying with other airlines, you can easily find other options at https://www.matkahuolto.fi/en. We suggest to look for connections between Helsinki airport (Vantaa) and Turku bus station.

Turku is also served by its local airport (located at approximately 30 minutes from the city center), which is connected daily to Stockholm Arlanda airport,  almost daily to Copenhagen Airport, and almost daily to Riga airport.

Where to stay:

The Workshop will take place at the University of Turku campus, more specifically in the Educarium building. When it comes to organizing your stay, there are a few hotels close to the University campus. However, note that the University campus can be easily reached by foot or by bus from the city center, where more hotels are located.

Meals:

At the campus hill, you can find several canteens, which are especially practical for lunch. Along Hämeenkatu (5/10 minutes walk from Educarium ) you can find several restaurants, which offer different types of cuisine, such as Finnish, Greek, Italian, Indian, and Chinese.

The city center, especially along the river Aura, offers several options, especially for dinner. Please note that in Finland dinner is served relatively early, especially compared to Mediterranean countries.

Local Transport:

Local public transport is operated by Föli. You can board any yellow-and-white bus and simply tap your credit card on the reader. Each fare is valid for two hours, but you must tap the same card every time you board. If you make multiple trips in a day with the same card, the system automatically caps your total cost at the daily fare, so there is no need to purchase a day ticket in advance.
