About Prof. Ben Light
I am Professor of Digital Society and Lead, in the Centre for Research on Inclusive Society. I research our experiences of digital media focusing on (non)consumption, gender, sexuality and digital methods. I draw on Sociology, Media and Cultural Studies, and Science and Technology Studies in my work, and am part of the global Internet Studies community. I am author (with Prof. Susanna Paasonen and Prof. Kylie Jarrett) of Not Safe for Work: Sex, Humor and Risk in Social Media (2019 MIT Press) and Disconnecting with Social Networking Sites (Palgrave 2014). My current book project, (with Dr Lisa Garwood-Cross and Dr Eileen Wattam, University of Salford), is Dating and Hookup Apps, (Polity Press, Digital Media and Society Series). I am associate editor at New Media and Society and Social Media + Society, am principal investigator of the UK Online Dating Lives Project and previously led the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council funded COVID Sex Lives Project.
