Plant heritage

Welcome to the website of Museum Studies at the University of Turku, Finland. Here, we present our diverse range of research projects and activities centered around museum gardens, and plant heritage, encompassing endeavors such as allotment gardens.

We define plant heritage as an ongoing process that encapsulates information, skills, and memories intertwined with plants. This heritage holds significance for various communities and individual gardeners alike. Plants often bear multiple connections to the past and are cherished for their ability to preserve living, cultivated heritage, which continually evolves to imbue new meanings. One criterion for identifying heritage plants appears to be their age, typically requiring a documented farming history of at least 50 years.

We are eager to collaborate on research, art, and various other activities pertaining to these themes.
