First scientific webinar on Bordetella pertussis (10.12.2025)

Scientific webinars are an important part of the functions of EURL to improve knowledge and laboratory practices among network members. This is also important for NRLs as they provide technical advice to other microbiology laboratories performing pertussis and diphtheria diagnosis in their countries.

Multiplexing respiratory panels are now widely used for diagnosis of pertussis, and macrolide resistant Bordetella pertussis is emerging in Europe. We are happy to inform you that the first scientific webinar will be organised on 10th of December, 2025. The webinar will be organised through Zoom/Teams platform, and is hosted by University of Turku. There is no limit of attendance for each country.

Topics of the webinar

After agreement with ECDC coordinators the following talks were selected to be presented:

  1. Nucleic acid-based detection of Bordetella pertussis from clinical samples:  insights for single- vs multi-plex PCR. Qiushui He (Prof, MD, PhD), University of Turku, Turku, Finland
  2. Detection and identification of macrolide resistance in Bordetella pertussis. Carla Parada Rodrigues (PharmaD, PhD), Institut Pasteur, Paris, France
