The importance of harmonised methods and clear guidance
The aim for protocols is to develop a “laboratory handbook of reference methods for diagnostics and typing”, according to recommendations in international guidelines and existing standards.
The laboratory handbook will include sections for diagnostics: culture, PCR (both single and multiplex approaches), serology and point-of care testing. Further clear sections for bacterial typing will be included.
The handbook should be published in 2026, and will be updated during the project if needed.
