MEET! Nathan Kiplangat Sikor – Åbo Akademi

Kiplangat Nathan Sikor is a talented writer and language enthusiast hailing from Uganda, East Africa. Born and raised in the vibrant cultural landscape of Uganda, Nathan developed a deep passion for languages from an early age. He pursued his higher education at Uganda Christian University, where he excelled academically and graduated with a remarkable first-class honors degree in languages, specializing in French and English.

Driven by his thirst for knowledge and a desire to explore new horizons, Nathan embarked on a new chapter in his academic journey by enrolling at Åbo Akademi University in Southwestern Finland. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree in French language and literature, delving deeper into the intricacies of the language and its rich literary heritage.

Nathan’s talent as a writer shines through his impressive literary achievements. He has published five books in French, establishing himself as a notable figure in the literary world. His autobiographical novel, “Le garçon de Sebeiland,” captures his personal experiences and paints a vivid picture of his upbringing. Additionally, he has authored four collections of poetry, namely “Le soupir des tropiques,” “Au-delà de nous,” “Sur les rives du Nil,” and “En ciblant la lune.” These collections showcase his poetic prowess and reveal his profound insights into life, love, and the beauty of the world.

Before pursuing further studies, Nathan honed his teaching skills as a French language teacher at several international schools in Uganda. His dedication to imparting knowledge and fostering a love for the French language among his students was commendable. Additionally, he worked as a translator at Global Gate Translations and Sans Frontières Language Centre, where he contributed to bridging language barriers and facilitating effective communication.

Nathan’s passion for the French language and literature is a driving force in his life. At Åbo Akademi University, he actively participates in various research programs, immersing himself in the study of French literature, linguistics, and cultural studies. His commitment to academic excellence and his contributions to the field have garnered recognition, earning him a place in the esteemed Global South Network in Finland. As part of this network, Nathan collaborates with like-minded individuals and scholars, sharing ideas and insights to promote a better understanding of the Global South and its diverse cultures.
