Research Oppurtunities
Available potential projects
• Novel gut microbiome–derived bile acids and early-life allergy
To investigate previously unidentified bile acids produced by the infant gut microbiome and their potential role in shaping early-life immune development and allergy risk. This work is carried out in collaboration with researchers at the University of Helsinki.
• Microbial lipids and intestinal cellular dysfunction
Our team studies how gut microbe–derived lipids influence epithelial integrity and host cell responses using intestinal cell culture models (Caco-2 and HT-29, model establishment ongoing). This project is conducted in collaboration with Åbo Akademi University.
• Antimicrobial resistance and microbial metabolites
We have potential projects with aim to explore how antimicrobial resistance interfaces with metabolite production in clinically relevant microbes. This work is performed together with the Turku Clinical Microbiome Bank. Department of Clinical Microbiology, Turku University Hospital
• Integrative microbiome–metabolomics analysis
We apply advanced computational tools to mine large public microbiome and metabolomics datasets to uncover novel gut microbial functions and metabolic signatures.
