How to participate

There are different ways to participate in this research. You can participate in one, or all activities depending on what you want.

  • You can take part in an interview/conversation where Your everyday life experiences are discussed. In our conversation, instead of asking You a lot of specific questions, we encourage You to share Your personal stories in Your own words. This way, we can better understand how You make sense of Your experiences and the meanings behind those stories. We want to focus on listening and learning from Your unique perspective, rather than just collecting straightforward answers. You have the freedom to choose what topic You’d like to discuss—there’s no specific topic we want to impose on You. This is about Your experiences, and we are here to hear what matters to You. The interview will be carried out at a time that suits You and at a mutually agreed place or for example by phone. It is good to reserve about an hour and a half for the interview.
  • You can participate in the research by writing a diary. If you wish You can even send diary messages over the phone. You can also, for example, keep a diary by video recording. Together we will discuss what is the best way for You to keep a diary. A diary, You can write at any time. Together we will discuss what is the best way for You to record a diary and keep it safe.
  • You can take part in a creative writing workshop, where participants learn creative writing and share their ideas about material given prior to the workshop.
  • You can participate in the ethnographic part of the research. This means that one of us researchers will spend time with you when it suits you. In this way, we get to follow and observe closely the things that are happening in your life at that particular moment and what kind of environment you are operating in. The time of such ethnographic observation is always agreed upon together, and it can last as long or as little time as we agree together.
