About the project

KOHTI – Language Learning as an Investment in Wellbeing and the Future

The KOHTI Project aims to create a novel operational model and method for teaching Finnish to international researchers. Learning Finnish is an investment for the future as it efficiently facilitates life in Finland as well as strengthens integration. Language proficiency supports international professionals in employment, advancing their careers, and navigating the everyday life with ease. It lays the foundation for long-term integration and creates a strong sense of community. The model places strong emphasis on communication, especially spoken language and successful real-life interaction.

These are the main objectives of the future model:

  • to create an effective, communication-centred learning model that matches to the growing necessity to integrate international professionals more efficiently into the Finnish society and working life.
  • to make learning and using Finnish meaningful, motivating, accessible, and above all, a natural part of the learners’ daily lives.
  • to combine practicality, flexibility, and sense of community
  • to actively incorporate the role of peer support, working life immersion, and learning together in natural environments

The project brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts from education, research, and working life. The project contributes to economic growth, supports regional vitality, and helps build a broader, more sustainable network of experts in Finland.
