Event: Tracing colonialism in modern law: lessons from past?
What remains of colonial law in today’s world? What changes has modern law brought to postcolonial settings? What kinds of challenges do the remnants of colonial law pose for nation states?
You are warmly welcome to the event Tracing Colonialism in Modern Law – Lessons from the Past? on September 11 at 17:00–19:00 in Think Corner (University of Helsinki, Yliopistonkatu 4). MARCEN PI Daniela Alaattinoğlu will be one of the featured speakers at the event.
The questions above will be discussed from the perspectives of Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch colonial legal histories. The fate of Sámi law and its future prospects will offer an important comparative viewpoint.
The event is organized by Comparing Early Modern Colonial Laws (Research Council of Finland project) and the Rule of Law Centre (Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki).
