Publication on reconciliation for past oppression in the case of the Nordic Sámi
In this short article, published in the journal Ikaros, MARCEN PI Daniela Alaattinoğlu ponders upon the establishment of the contemporary Nordic Sámi Truth and Reconciliation Commissions. She welcomes the establishment of the truth commissions, noting that the application of a transitional justice framework in the Nordic countries is relatively uncommon. She particularly emphasises that the Commissions should go beyond producing historical reports on past oppression and pave the way for reconciliation by addressing public responsibility and recommending reparations for the affected communities.
