Microbial Evolutionary Genetics Lab
We seek quantitative understanding of rapid microbial evolution. This is essential to combat antibiotic resistance and biodiversity loss, which are among the gravest challenges faced by humanity today. Our work also contributes to the new eco-evolutionary synthesis.
Our cross-disciplinary approach combines experimental evolution, genetic engineering and computational data analysis. We collaborate closely with a national and international network of experimentalists, molecular biologists and computational biologists.
The MEG Lab is led by Collegium Researcher Johannes Cairns, PhD, and is located in the Department of Biology (Natura building). The lab is affiliated with the Finnish Multidisciplinary Center of Excellence in Antimicrobial Resistance Research (FIMAR).
