Phone Setup
- Open Google Play Store:
- Search and Download “Microsoft Authenticator” app:
- When in Google Play Store, use the search bar and search for “Microsoft Authenticator”.
- Tap “Install” to download and install the app on your phone.
Actions on Computer
- Open a web browser on your computer, such as Chrome or Firefox:
- Go to IDM UTU website:
- Type idm.utu.fi into the browser’s address bar and press Enter.
- Select “Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Settings”
- At this point, the device may ask you to log in or use the previously set multi-factor authentication method; if you do not have access to it, see MFA reset.
- Select “Set Up Authenticator Application”
- Scan the QR Code:
- An window named “Set Up Mobile Authenticator” will appear, showing a QR code.
- Take your Android phone and open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Use the “Scan QR code” function on your phone, do not sign in with any credentials to the app.
- If prompted, grant the app necessary permissions.
- Follow the app’s instructions to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
Finalization:
- Enter the one-time authentication code:
- After scanning, the app will create a UTU SSO profile. Open it and Microsoft Authenticator will generate a one-time authentication code.
- Enter this code into the field displayed on your computer screen.
- Name the device, e.g. “Phone”:
- Finally, click “Submit”:
Note:
- Using MFA:
- From now on, whenever you log in using MFA, you’ll need to open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone to get the one-time authentication code.
- Microsoft Authenticator Lock:
- If you have set up a passcode lock with Microsoft Authenticator installation, opening it will require the passcode or fingerprint set on your phone, depending on which is set as the primary unlock method on your phone.

- Using MFA:
