Nanoplastic Lab Turku

Science for Plastic-Free Oceans & Air

Nanoplastic

In the Nanoplastic Lab Turku, we study the occurrence of nanoplastics in aquatic environments, particularly in the Archipelago Sea. Additionally, we investigate the spread of nanoplastics as a global phenomenon by collecting water samples from the oceans as well.

The Nanoplastics Lab Turku is part of the Turku Biodiversity Unit and the Archipelago Research Institute Seili.

Nanoplastics are environmental pollutants smaller than microplastics. The extent and severity of nanoplastic pollution are still largely unknown. Nanoplastic Lab Turku is conducting precise measurements to provide reliable data that can be used to assess the potential threat nanoplastics pose to both the environment and human health.
