Brownbag Session Researcher Assessment – April 3, 2025
Do you want to embrace Open Science but worry it won’t count when your work is evaluated?
Many researchers face this challenge. Despite the value of Open Science for many researcher assessments often still focus on the number of papers published. Funding decisions for institutes are based on the number of publications in journals rated JUFO 2 or higher. This makes it harder for researchers to invest in Open Science without risking career progress.
This needs to change. Open Science strengthens the integrity and quality of research. When relevant and used effectively, it’s a powerful tool that deserves recognition and reward. Let’s push for a system where adopting Open Science isn’t a career risk—but a career asset.
Laura Himanen, a specialist at CSC – the IT Center for Science, is at the forefront of this shift. She is involved in developing the Openness Profile, a tool that enables researchers to showcase their Open Science contributions. The goal is to integrate it into Research.fi, providing a dedicated space for researchers and experts in Finland to highlight their openness efforts.
Laura is excited to present the Openness Profile and the broader researcher profile system to the Open Science Community Turku. She looks forward to your feedback on its concept, design, and usability—ensuring it truly benefits researchers. Your input is invaluable in shaping this initiative!
Join the “Researcher Assessment” brownbag session on April 3 at 10 am, in Publicum (Assistentinkatu 7, Turku) PUB KH149 Tiedekunnan kokoushuone (the faculty meeting room on the 1st floor)!
