Data collection started with the first reading group session

In September, our research project began its data collection with the first meeting of the youth reading group. For the first reading group, the participants read You Don’t Know What War Is by Yeva Skalietska.

In the reading groups, young people aged 16–19 read literature that addresses intersecting crises, particularly from the perspectives of security and belonging. Engagement in reading groups reinforces a dialogical approach to knowledge production and complements sociological crisis research by providing tools for examining experiences through literary studies and fiction.

The ideas raised by the texts are discussed collectively, and the discussions are further deepened through creative writing exercises and thematic interviews. During autumn 2025 and spring 2026, our research team will organize several reading groups both in Finland and in Morocco.
