Tracking the rhetoric surrounding forests
Actions begin with words. The way how we talk about forests in this moment affects how they will be treated today and in the future. Speech preserves within it reasonings and modes of thinking, born in different times and places. The project Puhetta metsistä (Discussing the forests), funded by the Kone Foundation, highlights one such period and place, Southern Italy of the High Medieval Period. It was during this time that the basic elements of the western rhetoric of the forest were born.
