First M.A. thesis in RoboLang project finished and published
Minna Vahter-Kojo (department of French, University of Turku) has finished her M.A. thesis – “Quelle transcription multimodale adopter pour rendre l’interaction avec un robot ? : Le cas de l’apprentissage de l’anglais à l’aide du robot NAO Elias” – the first M.A. thesis completed in the RoboLang research project.
In her thesis, she studies and compares two multimodal transcription conventions (Mondada (2008) and Norris (2004)) and discusses their adaptability for the transcription of multimodal RALL (robot-assisted language learning) and CRI (child-robot interaction). The focus is in particular on the conventions’ representation of hand movements and smiles as according to Vahter-Kojo (2020), those are essential clues used in the interaction between the subjects and the robot.
The access to the thesis has been restricted but the abstract can be read in utuvolter. Click here to access it.
