Title: Adverse effects of PFAS and vector compounds on early life stages of zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos
Per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been recognised as contaminants of emerging concerns for many years; however, their means of transportation in the aquatic environment are still poorly understood. One pathway gaining more attention recently is the so-called “Trojan horse effect”, in which contaminants are taken up by organisms via vector molecules. This talk will be on adverse effect on zebrafish embryos exposed to a combination of selected PFAS and vector molecules, focusing on acute toxicity and cellular and physiological responses at sublethal concentrations.

Title: Sometime Drift, Sometime Selection: Looking for Footprints of Adaptation in Finnish Genomes
Evolutionary forces such as genetic drift and natural selection have shaped human genetic variation across populations in different ways. In this talk, I will discuss how population-genetic approaches can be used to identify signatures of selection in the genome, particularly in the Finnish population.
