Announcement of the third webinar series! 26.9. 14:30-15:30
Join us for our third webinar for the UTU-GreDiT Monthly Webinar Series on the 26th of September, at 14:30-15:30 (local time in Finland)! https://utu.zoom.us/j/68608317678
The UTU-GreDiT webinars are organized for the UTU-GreDiT doctoral researchers of University of Turku to share with each other, and with everyone their in-progress research or finalized outputs in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
We continue our webinar series with Adnan Asif Rifat and Marco Rodriguez:
Presentation: Multi-Scale Assessment of Heatwaves in Urban Heat Islands: Effects of Vegetation Structure and Height
Heatwave and Urban heat island analysis using 20 stations across Turku for 22 years, with half-hourly recorded surface temperatures. The distribution of different threshold heatwaves and their frequency was analyzed to examine how urban greenery can make our cities resilient against climate change-induced warming. In this research, we investigated the underlying causes of UHI and characterized its temporal dynamics, and suggested a definition of urban greenery to mitigate UHI.
Presentation: Using critical elements to discriminate tectonic settings of Archean and Phanerozoic basalts
The geochemistry of the Archaean mantle differs from that of present-day Earth. In this talk, we will examine how this difference is expressed in the critical elements Th, Nb, Yb, Zr, Y, and La by comparing whole-rock geochemical databases of Archean and Phanerozoic basalts. This comparison will allow us to identify which Phanerozoic tectonic settings Archean basalts most closely resemble.
