Alice Baroni’s Fieldwork and UNPFII

As part of her fieldwork, Postdoctoral Researcher Alice Baroni took part in the 24th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, which took place in New York City between 21 April and 2 May 2025. The Forum gathered Indigenous delegations from around the world, together with State representatives and International and Non-Governmental Organizations, to discuss the most pressing issues on the agenda of advancing Indigenous rights globally. These included the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the advancement of interregional and intergenerational dialogue, and the financing of Indigenous Peoples’ work and participation across the multilateral system.

Besides participating to the Forum, during her three-month fieldwork across Europe and North America, Alice Baroni interviewed several organizations involved in advocacy and support for Indigenous and Native North American rights. These included Incomindios, the Indigenous Peoples’ Centre for Documentation, Research, and Information (DOCIP), Survival International, Minority Rights Group, Oxfam, the Turtle Island Solidarity Network, Akicita, Kiwani, and Soconas Incomindios, and spanned two continents and five countries: Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Italy.
