Reetta Humalajoki at the Finnish Conference of History Research

Project PI Reetta Humalajoki was featured as a panelist on a roundtable discussion on the theme of Historical Research and the Future of Democracy at the Finnish Conference of History Research in Jyväskylä on 16 October 2025. This was the opening session of the conference, organized in celebration of the 150 year anniversary of the Finnish Historical Society’s founding. The other panelists were Kati Parppei (University of Eastern Finland), Pasi Ihalainen (University of Jyväskylä) and Timo Miettinen (University of Helsinki), and the discussion was chaired by Jari Ojala, the rector of the University of Jyväskylä. Reetta spoke particularly on historical points of comparison to recent developments in United States politics, as well as how history demonstrates just how necessary social activism and especially student movements are in securing democratic futures.
