Column in SAM Magazine

Reetta Humalajoki  published a column in SAM Magazine, the publication of SAM, a non-profit organization promoting cultural exchange between United States and Finland. The column, published in Finnish, is titled Indigenous Boarding Schools and President Biden’s Apology – Just Empty Words? On October 25th President Joe Biden apologized on behalf of the federal government for its role in forcing Indigenous children to attend boarding schools. In his speech Biden admitted to the government’s role in this traumatic history. Some descendants of boarding school students have, however, criticized the apology for being too moderate. To what extent was the timing of the event motivated by the presidential election the following month?
