Beginner’s guide – Frontpage

This is the University of Turku’s WordPress page, where you can learn to make basic changes to your website.

In WordPress, pages and posts (Posts/News/Events) are two fundamental content types, each serving different purposes:

Pages:

  • Static content: Pages are intended for permanent and static content, such as an “About Us” page, contact page, or service description.
  • Hierarchical structure: Pages can be organized hierarchically, creating a structure with a main page and related subpages, aiding in content organization.
  • Navigation: Pages are typically part of the site’s main menu, providing a stable and permanent way to present information.

Posts (Posts/News/Events):

  • Dynamic content: Posts are designed for dynamic and timely content, such as blog posts, news, or articles.
  • Chronological order: Posts often appear in chronological order, with the newest ones first. They can be categorized and tagged to enhance discoverability.
  • Archiving and search capabilities: Posts are suitable when a site has a lot of regularly updated content, offering archiving and search functions to facilitate visitor navigation.
