Air cargo and airport industry are among the hardest hit industries since the measures to slow down the spread of the coronavirus Covid19 have taken place. In this presentation, Dr. Jaafar & Prof. Ojala first provide an overview of the global situation and then focus more specifically on the Malaysian air cargo industry.

Dr. Harlina Jaafar

Harlina Suzana Jaafar is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Technology and Supply Chain Management at the Faculty of Business and Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia.  Her field of expertise includes third party logistics, halal supply chain, trade logistics and green logistics.

Currently, Jaafar actively involves in the development of Halal Supply Chain standard for Malaysia and OIC countries, in which she is now the Chairman of Technical Committee (TC) 10 Halal Supply Chain under the Standard Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) based in Istanbul since 2017 and Islamic Standard Committee member in Standards Malaysia.  She is also actively involved in several task force under the Ministry of Transport.

Prof. Lauri Ojala

Lauri Ojala is Professor of Logistics at the Turku School of Economics, University of Turku (FI) since 1997. Adjunct Professor of Logistics at Linköping University (SE) and at National Defence University (FI). CEO of logscale oy, a supply chain compliance consultancy.

His fields include international logistics, maritime and port economics, and he has worked as an expert for The World Bank, EC, ADB, OECD and UNECE, and for Ministries of Transport of several countries. Initiator of WB’s biennial Logistics Performance Index  since 2007. He also heads the biennial Finnish Logistics Surveys, which comprise the largest national logistics survey database in the world.

Since 2006, Project Director of five EU-projects with a combined volume of 16+ M€, incl. Baltic Sea Region projects HAZARD on Seaport Safety & Security in 2016-2019 and OIL SPILL on combatting coastal oil spills in 2018-2021.
