Risk Management in Seaports

Prof. Kersten and Mr. Nagi from Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) revisit the issue of seaport safety and security in the viewpoint of major accidents and the impact of countermeasures against the spread of COVID-19. The treatment is building upon the results of seaport safety & security project HAZARD, a 3-year EU part-funded project in which the authors were responsible for work package “Risk Assessment and Analysis”.

Prof. Wolfgang Kersten

Wolfgang Kersten is the Director of the Institute of Business Logistics and General Management at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Germany. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Logistics Association (BVL) and one of the Directors of the “SME 4.0 Competence Center Hamburg”, that assists small and medium sized enterprises in finding feasible ways of implementing Industry 4.0.

Kersten’s research areas focus on logistics and supply chain management (SCM), especially on supply chain risk management and on digital transformation of logistics and SCM. The Institute of Business Logistics and General Management carries out various research projects in these fields together with manufacturing industry and logistics service providers.

Mr. Ayman Nagi

Ayman Nagi is a research associate in the Institute of Business Logistics and General Management at the Hamburg University of Technology. His research is currently focusing on Risk Management in seaports. Previously, he has worked in the fields of Quality, Production and Risk Management with different international as well as national companies in Germany and Jordan. He received his M.Sc. in International Production Management from the Hamburg University of Technology (Germany) and his MBA in Technology Management from the Northern Institute of Technology Management (Germany) in 2017.
