Welcoming Prof. Hauser: Strengthening Our Expertise in Data Visualization
We had the great honor of hosting Prof. Hauser from the Visualization Research Group at the University of Bergen here at the University of Turku. His visit was part of the Dining Flow project’s efforts to strengthen our knowledge and capabilities in the field of data visualization, an area that is increasingly crucial for making sense of complex research findings and communicating them effectively.
Recognizing the value of his expertise, we wanted to ensure that his visit would benefit not only our project but also the wider academic community at University of Turku. For this reason, we organized an open lecture, where Prof. Hauser shared his insights under the following title: Visual Data Science for Rich Simulation Data. The lecture provided perspectives on how visualization can help transform raw data into powerful tools for analysis, decision-making, and storytelling.
Beyond the lecture, we also held a dedicated workshop with Prof. Hauser, focusing specifically on the work of the Dining Flow project. This hands-on session allowed us to dive deeper into our own challenges and opportunities, with his guidance helping us to reframe and advance our approaches. Importantly, we also open the space for our consortium companies to bring forward their internal R&D questions and engage in direct discussions with him, an invaluable opportunity to connect cutting-edge academic expertise with real-world industry needs.
We are grateful for Prof. Hauser’s generosity in sharing his knowledge and for the meaningful exchanges that took place. His visit has not only enriched our project but also reinforced the importance of collaboration across disciplines and institutions at international level.
