Andreas Gegenfurtner: Toward a cognitive theory of visual expertise
This talk focuses on professional vision and the (development of) visual expertise of professionals in vision-intensive domains. The first partbriefly reviews selected models on visual expertise and highlights some significant contributions to theory and methods that are associated with Erno Lehtinen’s œuvre. The second part presents the cognitive theory of visual expertise as a novel framework to study the processes and practices of professional vision. Finally, the third part outlines the implications of this new theory model for educational practice and future research designs, with a particular focus on mixed-method eye-tracking studies on teacher noticing in classrooms.
