New information on mystery star
V Sagitttae was disvovered in 1902 and it has baffled researches ever since with its wild brightness variations. In the 1960s V Sagittae was identifed as a binary star with the two components orbiting close to each other with a period of 12.3 hours. The exact composition of the stars has remained elusive, however. Now an international group of researches, including Pasi Hakala from FINCA, has constrained the sturcture of the stars far better than before and discovered a previously unknown massive accetion disk surrounding the system. According to the results of the group, the system may erupt in a huge outbust by the end of this century.
