Clinical Substudy

​Participants retiring in 2017 and 2018 and living in Turku or its neighborhood municipalities will be invited to a detailed clinical examination at the University of Turku, Paavo Nurmi Centre. Estimated number of participants is 500.

The annual examination protocol currently includes following measurements:

• Blood and hair sample
• Body composition (bioimpedance InBody 720), body height and weight, waist circumference
• Central and ankle brachial blood pressure and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring at home
• Physical functioning: grip strength, walking speed, chair stand test, standing balance
• Cognitive functioning: MMSE, Trail Making Test A-B and computer-based cognitive testing battery CANTAB®
• Physical fitness testing: indirect sub maximal bicycle ergometer test, muscle strength from upper and lower extremities
