New seminar series: Current Trends in Human Diversity

Human Diversity research consortium is launching a new seminar series this autumn. The first event is arranged on Wednesday 25th September 2024 at 10:00

Human Diversity (HuDi) is Academy of Finland Profi7 funded research consortium which focuses on cutting-edge research on how human contacts and communication networks influence material and immaterial culture, genes, disease burden, transgenerational effects and evolutionary fitness of people.

To bring more knowledge about these topics to University of Turku scientific community, HuDi is launching a new high-class seminar series called Current Trends in Human Diversity. The speakers are world-famous scientists in their own fields of research and the seminars are intended for both researchers and students.

– This new seminar series has been launched to tell people about the versatile research done in human diversity and to bring together scientists from different research fields, says Professor Virpi Lummaa, the chair of Human Diveristy consortium.

– We are looking forward to listen to these exciting talks, Lummaa continues.

 

Come and listen to distinguished lectures on 25 September at 10:00

The three speakers of the first seminar represent various fields of research. Professor Ruth Mace from University College London will tell the audience about the ecological origins of bias, and Professor Volker Heyd from University of Helsinki will discuss the Steppe Impact on prehistoric Europe. Professor Russel Gray’s research spans the areas of cultural evolution, linguistics, animal cognition, and the philosophy of biology, which is the audience will learn more during his talk. Prof. Gray is from Max Planck Institute.

The seminar is arranged on 25th September 2024 at 10:00-12:00 in Säästöpankki lecture hall, in University of Turku main building. Coffee and sandwich are served before the event, no registration is needed.
