Quality of life update for AADA: AADA Explorer plugin for QGIS

On 20th of August Human Diversity organized a workshop in Geohouse to develop AADA (Archaeological Artefact Database of Finland).  An interdisciplinary group including for example archaeologists, biologists and linguists gathered together to discuss and try a new QGIS  plugin for AADA that allows for much quicker map visualisations, fetching of data and filtering through it without the need for R coding experience. This workshop was held by geographist Meeli Roose and “data wizard” Elias Koskinen from BEDLAN research group. The participants of the workshop tested various AADA Explorer and gave valuable feedback on how to improve it while also giving their insights on URHIA and possible ARHUT web interfaces. In the end everyone present were invited to vote for a new possible logo for AADA! The plugin will undergo some further updates based on the feedback before its release to the grand public.

An AADA workgroup was formed from the participants to add more data to AADA and help to develop it. We want to extend this invitation also to everyone interested in helping AADA grow even more! Contact Elias Koskinen (anteko@utu.fi) if you’re interested in offering a helping hand or want more information.

Thank you for everyone present for your time and valuable input!
