Course: Human Past in Finland and in the Uralic Language Speaker Area

Welcome to the course on the human past!

In the course the student will familiarize themselves with the archeological, linguistic and genetic past of the areas of Finland, Baltic Sea surroundings and Uralic languages speakers areas, as well as with ecological characteristics of the area. A 3 ECT version of the course includes lecture attendance, reading assignments and an exam. For 5 ECT, the students will also make a course work that will deepen the thematics of the course through multidisciplinary group work focusing on human history on e.g. a given geographical area.

The course is in situ, but you can follow the lectures in Zoom (note that the course is not a hybrid and cannot be taken online).

Tervetuloa ihmisen menneisyyttä käsittelevälle kurssille!

Kurssilla tutustutaan Suomen, Itämeren alueen ja uralilaisten kielten puhuma-alueen arkeologiseen, kielelliseen ja geneettiseen menneisyyteen, sekä sivutaan ekologisia erityispiirteitä. Luentoja ja oheislukemista tenttimällä saa 3 op, ja ryhmätyön kera voi saada yhteensä 5 op. Luennoilla opittua syvennetään näillä kurssitöillä, joilla pureudutaan monitieteisissä ryhmissä esimerkiksi tietyn maantieteellisen alueen ihmisen esihistoriaan.
