Share your experiences!
Living in Runosmäki, Halinen, Skanssi or Harppuunakortteli? Participate in the study and share your experiences!
We are interesteed in everyday life and encounterings in the neighbourhood. You can take part in the research in various ways. We start with a survey, which takes 10-20 minutes to complete, depending on the detail of your responses. You can save your answers after each page and continue later. By responding, you consent to the use of your information for research purposes. Providing contact details is voluntary, and you can respond anonymously.
Interviews
You are also welcome to share more comprehensive insights into the everyday life of housing through interviews. The aim is to gain broader and deeper experiential knowledge of everyday encounters. Interviews are conducted in the vicinity of your home, either walking with the interviewer or sitting outdoors. The interviewer will pose questions, but there is also room for open discussion, where you can share your experiences in your own words.
The interviews are conducted by project researchers and students from an urban studies course. We conduct interviews in Finnish, Swedish, and English. If you would like to participate in an interview, please leave your contact details on the last page of the survey or get in touch with project researcher Päivi Leinonen; contact details are on the frontpage.
Diary
A third way to participate is by keeping an observation diary. The idea is to record various everyday encounters involving neighbors or local residents in some way. These encounters can be long or short and do not necessarily include conversation. The goal is not to identify individual people, but rather we are interested in the quality of encounters and situations.
We hope you will keep the diary for a week, two weeks, or, if you prefer, an entire month. You may choose to fill out the diary by handwriting on paper or using a computer. You can write in Finnish, Swedish, or English. Depending on your preference, you can write in the diary throughout the day or summarize the entire day’s events in the evening − whatever is most comfortable for you.
The diary allows you to examine your own daily life in a slightly new way. It provides the opportunity to reflect more deeply on the encounters; did it leave you with a particularly good feeling, or was there something bothersome?
If you are interested in this option, we will provide more detailed instructions. Please leave your contact details on the last page of the survey or contact project researcher Päivi Leinonen; contact details are on the frontpage.
