Join EPO’s Modular IP Education Framework (MIPEF) Course for Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD Students
The course “Create – Protect – Innovate: Bringing ideas to market” developed by the European Patent Office is aimed at Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s and PhD students and will teach you how to protect inventions and bring them to market and provide you with valuable insights into the world of innovation. It consists of two parts (entry and advanced levels and separate IP Management course), each containing five self-paced modules. Students who completed the Entry Level course in a previous edition are encouraged to progress to the Advanced Level course.

Format – Self-paced modules, quizzes, live sessions, tutored forums, final exam
Levels: Entry, Advanced and IP Management
The University of Turku offers this programme university-wide for Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s and PhD students. IP Management is strongly recommended by the EPO for business, entrepreneurship, innovation management, and law students. Where university curricula specifically require IP Management content, students from other disciplines may also be enrolled on an exceptional basis. Credits must be negotiated separately with the faculty.
The courses aim to:
- Bridge the gap between academia and the professional world by providing practical experience in intellectual property (IP).
- Promote IP awareness and understanding among young professionals.
- Promote the importance of understanding IP in the commercialization of research.
Overall, the course offers you unique opportunities to follow inventors’ real-life stories, understand why and how they patent their inventions and learn how intellectual property rights (IPRs) can be integrated into business strategies.

How to apply?
The Course registration starts 21 September 2026 and ends 14 October 2026. The course rooms open 16 October 2026.
The registration for the Course should be submitted by email to IPR and Innovation Manager Marjo Pihlavisto at Innovation Services (UTU TTO) by Wednesday, 14 October 2026 at 15:00 and include the following information:
- Your name and email address
- The faculty and degree level (Bachelor’s (final year)/Master’s/PhD)

EPO Certificate
At the end of the course, if you have completed all relevant activities and the final exam, you will be awarded to download an EPO certificate.
