WMGIC x NATO Countering Disinformation Challenge 2024

NATO Headquarters & William & Mary’s Global Innovation Challenge are seeking the best undergraduate minds from across the Alliance to tackle disinformation!

This challenge will be held virtually over Zoom on

Friday, November 1, 2024.

Register Teams Here!

Student registration open until 25.10.2024

Teams are welcomed to use the space in Entrepreneurial Hub Konttori during the event.

When registering to the event, please also send a confirmation email to konttori@utu.fi. Stating your team name and team members is sufficient.

Over several hours, undergraduate students will compete to propose the best way for NATO to counter disinformation from a policy perspective in one of the following topic areas: Artificial Intelligence, Public Health, Russia-Ukraine War, Gender-Based Violence, Terrorism, Climate Change (Climate Security), Climate Change (Clean Energy), and Human Rights.

Each plan of action will consider NATO’s existing capacity and what actions NATO should implement within the next 12 months.

Student teams will receive a detailed case study prior to the start of the challenge.

Mentors with backgrounds in government, industry, academia, and more will guide students as they discuss and deliberate their proposed plan of action.

Panels of expert judges will evaluate the proposals and select one winner from each stream, with each winning team receiving a $500 prize from WMGIC. The winners will be announced during Closing Ceremonies and will publicly present their pitch.

Any undergraduate student team from a university resident in a NATO Member or Partner Nation is invited to register. Teams will be accepted until October 25, with registrations considered on a rolling basis after that date.

No prior skills or knowledge required.

This competition is sponsored by NATO Headquarters and organized by William & Mary.
