Ernströmgruppen’s academic Sustainability Grant 2025 is targeted to degree students at the University of Turku who are working on ideas, projects or startups focusing on addressing sustainability challenges in an entrepreneurial manner.

How much is the Grant?

The grant amount is 10,000 EUR

Who can apply?

​The Grant is targeted to undergraduate and postgraduate engineering and technology students of the University of Turku (UTU). The Grant is awarded to a student team consisting of a minimum of two members. The applying teams may also include members from other faculties or from other universities. Please, notice that all team members must be undergraduate or postgraduate students in their home university. In addition, the team leader must have a study right at the Faculty of Technology at UTU. Applicants should be actively involved in a project initiated within the framework of their education and intend to deliver a practical project within a reasonable and justifiable time period.

What is the Grant for?

This grant is aimed at students who are championing ideas, innovations, and technical solutions related to fostering sustainability through a project that has a positive impact on society, environment, and/ or climate. The Grant can be given to a project, where students are developing a business idea, organizing an event or a series of events, or conducting some kind of a development project with tangible and measurable results. The Grant funding should be directed towards activities that directly advance the project idea, such as for example procurement, prototyping, experimentation, or the acquisition of external services. The Grant can’t be used to cover students’ everyday living expenses.

When & How to apply?

​To apply for the Grant applicants complete an online application form at the Turku University Foundation’s Electronic grant application system / Technology Fund application (Tekniikan tukirahaston hakemus).

The application should include a concise description of the project’s objectives, expected positive impacts, target groups, implementation period, and a budget. All the members of the team and their roles need to be mentioned in the application. The funded project is expected to deliver their report/presentation/demo/review latest 1 month after the end of the implementation period. Therefore, specify the tangible end results of your project already in the project application.

Applications showcasing entrepreneurship, responsibility, multidisciplinary collaboration and sustainability aspects will be highly valued.

The application period is 19.6. 2025 – 12.9. 2025.

Applications that do not include the required details or have been received after the end of the application period, are not valid.

Other information:

The Technology Fund’s Governing body decides on the projects to be selected for the Grant final (in November 2025). Based on the applications and presentations in the final event, a jury consisting of 3-4 evaluators will select the winner among the finalists. The selection of applications, (or the rejection of an application) and the decision on the selection of the Grant, cannot be appealed.

All the project teams planning to apply for the Grant are supported by the Entrepreneurial Hub Konttori at UTU/ Boost Turku in developing their application and project idea further.
