Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology
Faculty of Pharmacy
The Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology is established for its expertise in tablet compression and granulation research. The division has instrumented tablet machines available for tableting studies, as well as instrumented granulators, such as a laboratory-scale high shear granulator and a fully automated pilot-scale fluid bed granulator. In addition, the division has facilities and comprehensive equipment for studying tablet quality and solid state properties of pharmaceuticals. The state of art methods are utilized in optimizing pharmaceutical performance, particularly in relation to poorly soluble drugs. In addition to expertise in pharmaceutical formulation and manufacturing, novel pharmaceutical delivery systems such as 3D printing for personalized drug delivery are being developed. The division has developed in-depth expertise in modeling measurement results. Artificial intelligence has been used in results analysis of tableting and granulation studies since the early 2000s. The AI techniques used have been back propagation neural networks, pulse coupled neural networks and self-organizing map neural networks.
