The NEEN26 conference is organized jointly with ISEE (International Society for Environmental Ethics), European section.

Call for Abstracts

The Nordic Environmental Ethics Network (NEEN) and the International Society for Environmental Ethics (ISEE) invite submissions of abstracts for a joint conference at Umeå University on October 14–16, 2026. The conference aims to bring together scholars from multiple disciplines to discuss a range of topics relating to environmental ethics. Keynote lectures will be delivered by Catriona McKinnon and Teea Kortetmäki.

Abstracts should be fully anonymized and must not exceed 300 words. Abstracts can be submitted via this link by May 15, 2026. Accepted speakers will be expected to deliver a presentation in person. We aim to notify accepted speakers by mid-June, 2026.

NEEN25 conference

24–26 September 2025 / Turku, Finland

The Nordic Environmental Ethics Network (NEEN) will hold its annual conference on 24–26 September 2025 in the University of Turku, Finland, in collaboration with the Turku Environmental Ethics Research Center (TEERC).

We hope to bring together Scholars from a variety of fields such as environmental ethics and philosophy, Sustainability sciences, environmental humanities, and environmental social sciences to present their work and discuss Sustainability and environmental issues from an ethics perspective. We particularly welcome research pertaining to Nordic environments.

Research presentations comprise the heart of the conference. The program will also include keynotes, a Networking session where participants can pitch their ongoing or planned research or projects, and a pre-conference panel discussion on September 24 th on environmental Wars with Just and Unjust Environmental Wars (JUEW) project’s artists and researchers.

  • Stephen M. Gardiner (University of Washington)

Panel Discussion:

  • Just and Unjust Environmental Wars project (Juha Mäkinen, Raisa Foster, Teemu Mäki)

The call for papers is now closed . If you are interested in participating as an audience, please contact Mikko Puumala at mimapuu[at]utu.fi to receive the link for paying the registration fee (coming soon). Also, please indicate if you are interested in presenting your (ongoing or planned) research project in the Networking session. For all participants (with or without a paper), this is a good opportunity to meet colleagues and introduce your work and research interests. A certificate for participation in the session can be given for travel allowance Eligibility purposes.

The participation fee will be 50€ regular and 25€ reduced fee (eg, for students, unemployed).
