The Advisory Board of Smart Systems at the University of Turku plays an essential role in providing strategic advice and guidance. Made up of distinguished leaders from academia, industry and the public sector, our advisory board brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to help us advance in the three pillars (research, teaching and societal impact) of our mission.
Purpose and significance
The Advisory Board serves as a strategic body, offering valuable insights and perspectives to ensure the relevance, rigor, and impact of both research and teaching initiatives. With a focus on advancing knowledge and innovation in smart systems, the board collaborates closely with our research group to identify emerging trends, challenges and opportunities in the field.
Role and responsibilities
The Advisory Board helps us to ensure excellence by performing several important functions:
- Strategic Guidance: Provides strategic guidance to align research priorities with the evolving needs of academia, industries, and society.
- Industry Collaboration: Facilitate collaboration and partnerships between academia and industry to promote innovation, technology transfer and real-world applications of research results.
- Educational Enhancement: Advising on curriculum development, educational initiatives, and industry-relevant skill sets to prepare students for careers in smart systems and related fields.
- Societal Impact: Identify research opportunities to address social challenges, promote sustainability and contribute to the well-being and prosperity of communities.

Board meetings
Board meetings take place in person once a year. In 2024, the meeting will happen at the end of May.
