Let’s welcome our new postdoctoral researcher Kandice Barros
We have an exciting addition to the Smart Systems Lab! Kandice Barros, our new postdoctoral researcher, has just joined our team. Kandice brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of knowledge to the CaNeLis project. Her research interests align perfectly with the focus of our lab and we are thrilled to have her on board. We can’t wait to see the innovative ideas and contributions she brings to our team. Let’s all welcome and support her in this exciting new role!
Let’s see what Kandice has to tell us about her background, expectations, and so on:
Tell us about your background.
Doctor of Science from University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil) with a major in Mechanical Engineering (Hons.) and a ‘heart’ in computer science, I have been doing applied research and developing solutions in advanced manufacturing processes for the past 6+ years. Expert in metal additive manufacturing via L-DED with know-how in process monitoring and data analysis, I am currently interested in combining sensor fusion and artificial intelligence techniques to aid data processing for advanced manufacturing process improvement.
What brings you to Turku?
I am thrilled to join the University of Turku (UTU) to work with the Smart Systems team as a postdoctoral researcher – somehow I know there will be great science ahead. My mission at UTU Smart Systems starts with partnering with industries and the excitement of seeing the impact of our research. Revolutionizing the way we do manufacturing is an ongoing dream that was built step by step during my education.
Tell us about your expectations of working with us.
Participating and collaborating with world-renowned research groups at top universities and living in different countries has made me develop stronger interpersonal skills and experience academic and professional growth. I learned a lot from these past experiences, so I would like to highlight that building connections has made my journey very distinctive and remarkable. So I’m excited, once again, to do science and combine professional and personal growth while facing the challenges of being immersed in an entirely new culture.
And what about the social impact of your work?
In addition to research and managing competences, one of my life’s goals is to encourage and support women to pursue science and engineering careers. I strongly believe we all can put a dent in the knowledge frontier, and the first step towards that achievement is to be confident in who you are. Sometimes we just need support and equal opportunities. I am blessed I have always had amazing women to look to along the way that it feels so natural the wish to inspire younger generations. I am ready to take this front here at University of Turku.
Welcome aboard, Kandice!!
