Shaping the smart future
There is no doubt that a well-educated society is better prepared to deal with the challenges and opportunities in our technology-driven world. In this context, we have regularly opened the doors of our lab in Tierankatu to welcome students and pupils from schools in the Turku region.
This time, it was the turn of the STEAM group, led by teacher Juuso Vilponen from Teräsrautelan koulu, to visit us on May 17th. During the visit, the children had the opportunity to learn basic robotics concepts and even programmed mobile robots, all within a fun and enriching environment. The demo was conducted by research assistants Sakari Miettinen and Kimmo Paldanius, along with doctoral researcher Sahar Salimpour, under the supervision of associate professor Wallace Moreira Bessa.
Coding robots from scratch
In Coding robots from scratch, participants learn about fundamental coding concepts like variables and control structures using a block-based programming language. They explore the foundational principles of sensors and actuators. By applying these acquired concepts, participants gain the skills to design and implement basic codes for mobile robots.
