!NEW PUBLICATION! – A narrative review of climate- and environment-dependent dynamics of vector-borne diseases in the Nordic region: evidence from Finland

Vector-borne diseases represent a significant and evolving public health challenge, as their transmission is influenced by complex interactions between climatic, environmental, ecological, and socio-demographic factors. Recent changes in climate and environmental conditions may alter the geographical distribution, abundance, and seasonal activity of disease vectors, thereby affecting the epidemiology of vector-borne infections in previously less affected regions. This article provides a narrative review of climate- and environment-dependent dynamics of vector-borne diseases in the Nordic region, with particular emphasis on Finland. It examines the potential effects of environmental and climatic changes on important tick- and mosquito-borne diseases and discusses the implications for disease emergence, surveillance, and public health preparedness. The review further highlights the importance of an integrated One Health approach to understanding and responding to the changing epidemiology of vector-borne diseases.
