Call for Papers: Environmental Philosophy Seminar for Doctoral Researchers

3 December 2024 / University of Turku, Publicum

The Turku Environmental Ethics Research Center (TEERC), founded recently within the Philosophy Department at the University of Turku, invites doctoral researchers interested in environmental philosophy to participate in a full-day seminar on 3 December 2024.

We welcome presentation proposals broadly related to questions of environmental philosophy. The seminar is open to all doctoral researchers interested in environmental philosophy. Undergraduate students planning to pursue a research career in the field are also warmly welcome to attend.

Each presenter will receive feedback from a designated commentator, who will be an experienced researcher in environmental philosophy. Participants are asked to submit a research paper or dissertation chapter (4,000–7,000 words) in advance for review. You may also participate with a research plan or idea paper. Presentations will be approximately 20 minutes based on the submitted work.

The seminar aims to provide doctoral researchers with an opportunity to present their work, receive feedback from experienced scholars, and facilitate networking among Finnish environmental philosophers.

In addition to presentation sessions, the programme includes a keynote lecture by Olle Torpman (Institute for Futures Studies, Stockholm).

Registration:

Please submit your presentation proposal by email (oskari.a.sivula[at]utu.fi) by 7 October. The proposal should include the title of the presentation, an abstract (200–500 words), and the speaker’s name, contact information, and institution.

Travel expenses can be reimbursed for some participants. If you require travel support, please indicate this when registering. The travel support covers train and bus fares within Finland and accommodation for one night for those travelling from further afield. Undergraduate students requesting travel support are also asked to provide a brief motivation letter.

Lunch will be provided for all registered participants, and there will be an optional self-funded dinner after the seminar.

Presentations will primarily be in English, but if you are writing your dissertation in Finnish, you may also present in Finnish.
