Product-Service Systems Design

Industry 4.0 is the information-intensive transformation of manufacturing and related industries in a connected environment of data, people, processes, services, systems and industrial assets utilizing data and information as a way to realize smart industry ecosystems. Key technologies of Industry 4.0 enable realization of new services and business models. The growth drivers for future manufacturing business are smart products and services and customer integration for collaborative innovation and after sales integration.

A Product-Service System (PSS) is a combined system of products and services as well as infrastructures, interrelations and data with which ecosystem stakeholders including customers and product/service providers are co-creating values. In this course, students will understand the core concepts of the PSS design methodology, form practical knowledge structures for PSS design, and explore and exercise hands-on PSS designing experiences through project-based learning activities. The core course activity is a team-based project work conducted with intimate collaboration with manufacturing companies.

Contents: Design for Industry 4.0, Business Context Diagnosis and Product Life-Cycle Step Analysis, Customer Needs, New Service Activity and Service Concept Design, Service Concept Evaluation, Service Interaction and Touchpoint Design, Customer Experience Data-Driven Design and Personalization, Business Model Strategy and Evaluation, PSS Prototyping.
