Reetta Humalajoki’s Trip to Trent University
In September, project PI Reetta Humalajoki visited Trent University in Peterborough, Canada, to conduct archival research at the university’s Archives & Special Collections. At the archives, she went through archival collections related to the Indian-Eskimo Association, which in the early 1970s changed its name to the Canadian Association in Support of Native Peoples. She also looked at the papers of Professor Thomas H.B. Symons, founding president of Trent University and president of CASNP in the critical period of the early 1970s.
During her trip, Reetta also conducted an oral history interview related to these organizations, and visited with Mrs. Christine Symons and Professor Symons’ former research assistant Kathryn Matheson. A big thank you to them both for their time and to archives staff Karen Suurtamm and Tori Cartwright for all of their support during this visit!
