Study circle on the Sámi TRC

On 23 March, project PI Reetta Humalajoki gave a talk as part of a study circle on the Sámi Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Final Report. Titled “Truth and Reconciliation Commissions in Indigenous-Settler Contexts,” Reetta’s talk addressed the Truth and Reconciliation process in Canada highlighting progress made and problems faced since the final report was released in 2015. She then outlined recent developments in the Nordic context, before going into detail on the Finnish TRC process and giving some examples of quotes from the hearings and some significant issues to pay attention to. Reetta emphasized the need to keep talking about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report and keep pressuring the Finnish government to respond properly and Finnish media and public to pay attention.
